Balpara was contracted by Powercor to assist in delivering a large suite of services in the Mount Cottrell area, including Feature Survey, Title Boundary Establishment, Flood Reporting, Geotechnical and Soil Contamination testing services. 


Project Overview

 

Balpara was contracted by Powercor to assist in delivering a large suite of services in the Mount Cottrell area, including Feature Survey, Title Boundary Establishment, Flood Reporting, Geotechnical and Soil Contamination testing services. This project was delivered to Powercor, who were undertaking upgrades for land development in the area. 

 

Project Scope


Title Boundary report:

  • Title details/findings and the submitted title boundary.


Flood Report:

  • 1:100-year and a 1:200-year report.


Feature Surveying Services:

Feature survey of all visible boundary fences, including:

  • Survey of all sprayed marks and noted depths of underground assets identified by the asset locating services provided by Balpara.
  • Topographic information for the scope of works area.
  • Survey pick-up of existing Permanent Survey Marks in road reserve and publicly accessible areas to locate the survey to MGA coordinates.
  • Ground penetrating radar and asset locating for drawings, and to ensure safe locations for soil collection and drilling.


Geotechnical Services:

Geotechnical field investigation at the site including:

  • Laboratory testing to confirm and characterise subsurface geotechnical conditions.
  • Depth to groundwater.
  • Boreholes and test pits to determine soil collapsibility when excavating foundations.
  • Dial before you dig document study overlaid on investigation map.
  • SPT tests and soil description at regular intervals for all the boreholes.
  • Soil Contamination tests.
  • Interpretative report with deep and shallow foundation design parameters provided.


This was a significant project, with final outputs including Geotechnical Report, Soil Testing Report, Master Feature Survey Report, Flood Event Report and Title Boundary Report.


Value Add

Balpara first engaged to complete Feature Surveying, Geotechnical and Soil Testing services for Powercor, and were then able to proffer an expanded suite as the project progressed. This expanded scope was delivered to the client timeframe, with Balpara ensuring multiple parties were out on-site together to eliminate potential problems and ensure efficiency.

Balpara was engaged by civil constructor, Directbor, to provide detailing and drafting services to connect the Kerang Solar Plant to the nearby Kerang Terminal Station. Project Overview The Kerang Solar Plant in Victoria is a BSR Energy project, which aims to generate enough clean and reliable energy to offset the annual consumption of approximately 16,000 homes, contributing to a more sustainable future while reducing reliance on traditional power sources. Construction commenced in March 2024, and is projected to save 66,380 tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions annually. The land parcel is over 64 hectares in size, with the plan to visually integrate into the surrounding agricultural landscape with extensive planting of native flora around the entire project perimeter. The bell-mouth intersection off Lodden Valley Highway will be upgraded for improved accessibility and safety as part of this project. Scope Balpara’s involvement in the project was undertaken over the course of a month starting in August 2024, with Directbor engaging the team on behalf of Powercor. The Balpara team completed detailing and drafting of assets connecting the new Kerang Solar Plant to Powercor’s distribution network. Balpara employed GPS technology to accurately capture underground asset locations and create a comprehensive plan of assets within the short timeframe required. The project scope included: Capturing new underground asset locations to required standard using GPS equipment. Creating as-built plans of relevant assets to current Powercor standards. Providing captured 3D data to Powercor for future asset relocations. Value Add Balpara provided timely and accurate drawings and was able to quickly meet the needs of client variations.
